about

Bastion are a duo formed in 2008-2009, one half is the multi-instrumentalist/saxophonist Valerio Cosi and the other one is Jukka Reverberi (best known for his relevant work in the Italian post-rock band Giardini di Mirò). They made their eponymous debut for Interregnum Records in 2009 (out on a CD digipack edition) but the band never had a chance to tour at that time. Their only live appearance was at MI ODI Festival in Milano, Italy, 2009 (a rare trio formation with the Grammy-winning Francesco Donadello on modular synthesizers) - sharing the stage with OvO, Zu, Cripple Bastards, Xabier Iriondo and many others.
On the surface, "Bastion" appears as (possibly) the darkest, heaviest and bleakest work coming from both artists involved: four tracks that are deep into doomy drones, early Throbbing Gristle ("Second Annual Report" and "Heathen Earth"), Suicide at their most hallucinated form and lot of obscure industrial references may be easily found in their sound. From "Ohm" to the closing "Red Star" (slowly building throughout its 15 minutes and ending with an ear-splitting feedback), "Bastion" is an unexpected departure from both artists' catalogues.
This version is a remastered version (with brand new artwork), curated by Valerio Cosi.

Valerio Cosi Italy

"Free jazz mixed with psych-rock and electronic music, and all kinds of awesome" (Pitchfork)

"Cosi is a master at bending tones and meshing multiple instruments and styles into a cohesive unit. Layers of guitars, horns, percussion and more create everything from whimsical pop to sprawling, esoteric drone" (FoxyDigitalis)
